Remembering Jean

The Jean Harvey Foundation is a non-profit foundation created by Jean’s grandchildren Briana Arrington and Isaiah Harvey. Together their mission is to help keep her memory alive by continuing to spread her love for the education of our children and helping others in need.

Story

Born in Richmond VA

January 27th, 1947

Jean was born on January 27, 1947 in Richmond Virginia.  She was a devoted Catholic who received her sacraments as a child at St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.  She was educated at Van de Vyver Catholic School and graduated from St. Gertrude High School.  Jean began her career with the Richmond Redevelopment Housing Authority and from there was employed by Bellwood Defense Center.

Always having a love for children, Jean pursued her dream with Richmond Public Schools focusing on elementary education as a substitute teacher."Ms. Harvey", as she was so lovingly called, was serious about educating children particularly those in at risk communities. "Ms. Harvey" was committed and always took the extra step to assure that all children received the best education while under her instruction.  For a number of years, she was a dedicated teacher with Richmond Public Schools until her health began to decline. Through it all her passion for providing the best level of education never wavered.

Jean had many talents she shared willingly with everyone she came in contact with.  She had a love for sewing, crocheting, and making beautiful floral arrangements for weddings and festive occasions. In her later years she became a devoted member of the Red Hatters Society.
